De Coverly Roger vs Clark Ian
This was a very attacking game with a clear plan after move 19 for white attacking on king-side and black on queen-side. Black grabbed a pawn and then has to hang on for many moves. Bh6 for black on move 20 was a big mistake and gave white the advantage that he could not quite take. The best chance was to force the swap of queens and go for a winning end game on move 30 with Qf8 when whites rook would mop up the weak pawns. It still looked like white would break through but black managed to defend all the weaknesses with his knights. Once white allows exchange of rooks on move 55 it suddenly becomes winning chances for black by sacrificing his knight which could not move anyway. In end game some chances for black to win but very difficult and in end an honourable draw. |

Keith Spooner v Cornelius Cornes 0-1
Played in the 5th and final round of the Minor, Dorset Closed, February 2015. Keith Spooner (113) v Cornelius Cornes (121)Cornelius needed to win to secure the championship. All seemed to be going well, but Keith launched an impressive counter-attack which came close to winning. A long and exciting game that was the last to finish of any on the final afternoon.
